Austin Davis Biologics Ltd (ADB) is a science-based family business, founded in 2009 by Dr Corrine Austin and Professor Paul Davis. It is a small, fast-moving company that delivers scientific innovations and technology across a range of sectors, from R&D programmes focussed on equine health and parasite diagnostics to detailed consultancy and patent support (including expert witness contributions). EquiSal® Tapeworm, the saliva test to diagnose tapeworm infections in horses, was the first product from this R&D programme to reach the market in 2014. An equivalent blood test for tapeworm was also developed and commercialised as part of ADB’s diagnostic services. This test is also available as a laboratory ELISA kit outside of the UK. Completing the current diagnostic service provision is the Small Redworm Blood Test, which was developed and commercialised in conjunction with Prof Jacqui Matthew’s team at the Moredun Research Institute in 2019. Other equine health products are also in development.
ADB also manufactures saliva collection products which are available for diagnostic and research purposes.
The majority of ADB’s staff are highly qualified scientists, with two thirds of employees possessing PhDs. Our scientific expertise is focussed on veterinary diagnostics, parasitology, saliva-based testing, protein biochemistry, molecular biology and microbiology.
ADB’s vision is to bring high quality, rigorous scientific research and development to horse health, by providing accurate diagnostic tools for SQPs, veterinary practices, diagnostic laboratories and horse owners at affordable prices.
This video was filmed as a testimonial for our patent agents and provides a good overview of EquiSal® tapeworm testing and some footage of the laboratory and ADB staff.
